Configuring AudioExplorer

Application-wide options for AudioExplorer are accessed through the Application Options dialog.  This dialog is opened by selecting Options from the Tools menu, or by pressing the Toolbox icon on the main toolbar.

Application options are divided into four general categories:

Visuals Settings that affect format and coloring of the displayed information.

These settings affect the default values for newly opened windows.  In many cases, the same settings can be changed for individual windows; however, customizations made to individual windows will not be applied to subsequently opened windows.

Algorithms Settings that affect the analysis of audio data and how it is converted to frequencies, note maps, and MIDI.

These settings affect default values for the newly generated frequency spectra, note maps, and MIDI data.  In many cases, these values can be customized  for specific processes; however, such customizations are not "global" and will not affect the default settings.

System Settings that affect where AudioExplorer data is physically located, and the default configuration of AudioExplorer windows.

Audio Settings affecting the audio device used for playback and recording, and the real-time analysis of incoming/outgoing audio data.

The Application Options dialog consists of a category-selector tree on the left, a series of buttons on the bottom, and a settings panel which will change depending on the currently selected settings category.

Category Selector Tree Select an option subcategory in this panel to access the subcategory's settings.

Apply Apply the current settings.  This button is grayed-out if none of the settings have been altered.  For some subcategories (e.g., Algorithms/Power Spectrum), changes will not be evident until an appropriate function is invoked.  For other subcategories (e.g., Visuals/Wave Panel), changes will be applied immediately to any open windows.

Reset Reset the dialog's settings  to the values present when the application was started.  This button is grayed-out until changes are made to the settings.

Ok Accept any changes and close the dialog.

Close Close the dialog.  Pending changes to the dialog settings will not be applied, but will be retained and present next time the dialog is opened.
