Piano Panel Configuration

Note Display

The range of notes displayed in the Piano Panel is affected by three settings.  The Note Display settings in this dialog affect the range of piano keys displayed.  Furthermore, the MIDI Assembler configuration has its own Note Range settings, and though the Piano Panel's keyboard may be set to extend beyond the MIDI Assembler's range, no MIDI data will ever be sent to those extraneous notes (e.g., they will never "light up").

Finally, if the Piano Panel is in "Raw Frequency" mode, the MIDI assembler settings are irrelevant, and notes anywhere in the full MIDI frequency range may be observed to "light up" if the corresponding frequencies become active.

Lowest Key

Select the lowest key to be displayed on the piano keyboard.

Highest Key

Select the highest key to be displayed on the piano keyboard.

Hint:

The Piano Panel can be customized local by right-clicking on the piano, and selecting "Display Options".

Display Key Names

When checked, key names will be drawn on each key.

Initial Display Mode

As illustrated in the figure, the keys of the Piano Panel can respond directly to raw frequencies generated by the spectrum analyzer, or it can respond to MIDI data.  Since the Note Processor and MIDI Assembler perform substantial filtering of the frequency data, the Raw Frequency display mode will generally be more complex, with a large number of keys "lighting up" to various intensities.

MIDI

Display note events corresponding to fully processed and filtered MIDI data.

Raw Frequency

Display note events corresponding to frequencies emitted from the spectrum analyzer.

Hint:

The display mode for an open panel is easily toggled by pressing the mode button located in the upper right corner of the Piano Panel.

Colors
White Keys Select a color for drawing the "white" keys of the keyboard.
Black Keys Select a color for drawing the "black" keys of the keyboard.
"On" Note Select a color for drawing a note which is fully "On".  The actual color of the note will be scaled based on the strength of the frequency signal (in Raw Frequency display mode) or the MIDI note velocity (in MIDI display mode).
Background Select a color for the background (i.e., the spaces between the notes).

Hint:

Colors can be modified for any open Piano Panel by right clicking on the keyboard and selection "Display Options...".
